Dire Straits - Dire Straits Review

Their debut album released in 1978.  One of my favorite bands, but not my favorite album by them.  A great album for a debut, and completely, entirely listenable.  Obviously, track one on side 2, the single, Sultans of Swing is one of their hits and is great.  The guitar is very clean, tube audio sounding, and the vocals and everything else is awesome.  I don't think I ever realized until today that they are a British band.  They certainly don't sound like anything else that came out of England in the late 70's.  Pick this one up for sure.  It belongs in your collection!

Rex - Rex Review

Not to be confused with T.Rex.  This band is mediocre at best.  I can't find a good cut on the entire album.  Horrible and worse than Kiss.  It pretty much sounds all the same.  It is not something that is even remotely listenable.  The lead singer might have a good voice if he wasn't pushing it to limits that make him sound laughable.  Avoid this crap at all costs unless you enjoy crap.  Being removed from my collection as I type this.

Blues Magoos - Psychedelic Lollipop Review

I picked this album up a few years ago at a thrift store.  I had no idea what it was at the time.  I often will pick up albums for a quarter and take a chance on them.  This album came out in 1966 and is one of the few monaural albums I own.  It is a pretty decent album.  I guess it was considered psychedelic rock but it sounds more like the Monkees mixed with a surfer band.  Lots of organ and clean drumming.  Not really my cup of tea but something different to listen to from time to time.  Definitely worth picking up if you like this genre of music.  Just keep in mind, this is more garage sounding, not Pink Floyd or Spirit.

ZZ Top - Eliminator Review

Obviously a classic for songs such as "Legs", "Sharp Dressed Man", and "Gimmie All Your Lovin".  I recommend "TV Dinners" off side two.  Awesome song, you will not be disappointed.  The album is great all the way through.  Definitely a classic blues rock album.  A must have for your collection.

Jefferson Starship - Spitfire Review

This is their 3rd album and I have mixed feelings about it.  Released in 1976, it is a mix of rock and disco.  The rock element of the record is about 60 percent and the disco 40 percent.  It is not a bad album in my opinion but it is not great.  The guitar is awesome, the vocals are good, and everything else is just mediocre.  I usually like albums from this time period but I am just not feeling this one.  Maybe I will give it another listen in a few months and see if it is better?

Golden Earring - To The Hilt Review

Simply put, I do not like this album.  I couldn't find a decent song on it.  Quite frankly, it sounds like shitty disco to me.  Every time it starts to get kind of heavy and rock sounding, it switches to shitty disco sounding crap.  I am actually taking this album out of my collection.  It's horrible, stay away from it.
